Harmonizing the Body, Mind, and Spirit with Singing Bowls and Reiki Therapy

Sound therapy and Reiki are powerful tools for healing. They’re even better together.

You might be familiar with crystal quartz singing bowls and their ability to soothe and harmonize the body, mind, and spirit.

You might also be familiar with Reiki (pronounced “ray-kee”) and its ability to restore, rejuvenate, and revitalize the physical and spiritual bodies.

Did you know that combining them provides even more benefits?

Let’s look at some of the benefits of singing bowl sound therapy, Reiki, and then how they work together in harmony to balance the body, mind, and spirit.

Benefits of Singing Bowl Sound Therapy

Singing bowls have been used for meditation for several decades now. In a singing bowl meditation session, the practitioner will “rim” the bowls, using a crystal wand that creates the singing bowl’s unique sound.

It’s this sound that provides the healing. Not only is it a beautiful piece of music on which to focus your attention, it also gives off vibrational healing frequencies. The experience is blissful, relaxing, and powerfully beneficial.

Recently, scientists have been learning more about the power of sound, including how it can release trapped emotions in the body, beneficially alter your brain’s electromagnetic waves, help patients manage chronic pain, take cancer patients’ mind off their illness for a little while, and many other benefits.

Here are just some of the benefits singing bowls can provide:

  1. Might improve mood. Singing bowls are a great way to lift your spirits if you’re feeling down. In a study, researchers found that participants in a singing bowl session reported less tension, fatigue, anger and other feelings of depressed mood.

  2. Increase spiritual wellbeing. In that same study, people reported feeling more spiritually connected. No matter your personal spiritual practice, you can find a way to connect more deeply to the Divine during your session.

  3. Might decrease heart rate. As your mind and body relaxes, it can bring about physical changes, too. During a singing bowl session, the heart rate slows and tension decreases for greater relaxation and calm.

  4. Can increase mindfulness. In another study, the participants also reported a meditative state of higher consciousness. If you’re working on a mindfulness practice yourself, singing bowls can be a great way to bring this about.

  5. Might improve sleep. If you’ve ever left a meditation, yoga class, or massage feeling ready to go straight to bed, you know that feeling relaxed is a key part of quality sleep.

There is some evidence that singing bowls can increase sleepiness; regardless, anyone who has tried a singing bowl session can tell you how peaceful they feel on the way out.

Benefits of Reiki Therapy

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that works the electromagnetic field (also called the “aura”) instead of the physical body. It originated in the early 20th century and has grown in popularity due to its ability to relax, restore, and support the healing of the body.

Your practitioner will either hover their hands over your body or use a light touch, moving from the head to the feet and focusing their healing intention on certain key points. Each practitioner varies in their approach, but most can provide intuitive wisdom or spiritual insight after your session.

Reiki is renowned for its healing benefits, including mental, emotional, and physical, and is safe to use on infants, cancer patients, and older adults. It is a compliment to other healthcare techniques can even be done over distance.

Here are just some of the many benefits Reiki can provide:

  1. Improves sleep quality. Alternative healing is well documented as a sleep aid. It promotes deep, restful sleep, and Reiki is no exception. It’s been shown to improve the quantity and quality of sleep, helping many people combat insomnia.

  2. Can support emotional well-being. Reiki has also been shown to decrease feelings of anxiety and depression and boost mood overall. People find that Reiki helps them feel more connected and aligned, mentally and emotionally.

  3. Can support heart health. Reiki has been shown to regulate the heart’s rhythms and stabilize blood pressure, as well as reduce hypertension.

  4. Might improve breathing. Part of Reiki involves calming your body and mind, which can also deepen your breath. Research has started to measure respiratory rate in Reiki clients and found that it can improve your breathing and oxygen levels in the blood.

  5. Can ease migraines. There is also some evidence that Reiki can benefit migraine headaches and tension.

  6. Eases chronic pain. Another great thing about Reiki is that it can help you manage chronic pain or recovery from surgery or injury. In fact, many studies have shown that Reiki can help with pain management, either after a procedure or accident or if you have a chronic condition.

Reiki + Singing Bowl Therapy

Both these techniques are powerful by themselves, of course. But it’s amazing how they can compliment each other.
